Shiamak Davar is an Indian artist, choreographer, entertainment designer and dance educationist, who created Shiamak's Indo Jazz(TM),a fusion dance style combining Western Jazz technique and Indian movement.He has been credited for being the guru of contemporary dance in India and has a large following in India, UAE, Canada, Australia and South Africa. Bill Clinton, former President of the United States appreciated Davar at a performance by telling him, 'The world must see you'. Davar's cousin, Nikhil Jassawalla, is a Bollywood/Hollywood film financier and screenwriter.
Davar's choreography and entertainment design have represented India at several global events, such as the India Canada Business Partnership Summit Toronto 2008;launch of the Indo Japan Friendship Year Tokyo 2007;the World Economic Forum Davos 2006, and the Commonwealth Games Melbourne, among others.
Davar has choreographed several Indian actors and celebrities for film and stage. Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor was a member of the Shiamak Davar Dance Company, and was trained as a dance instructor by Davar.Upcoming Indian actors Ruslan Mumtaz, Shubh and child actor Darsheel Safary were also a part of the Shiamak Davar Dance Company.
Davar won the 1998 National Film Award for Best Choreography for his work in the film Dil to Pagal Hai as well as the Lycra(R) MTV Style Awards 2007 for 'Most stylish song in a film', for the song 'Dhoom Again' from the Indian film Dhoom 2.
Shiamak Davar began his choreography for Indian cinema with the film 'Dil To Pagal Hai', for which he won the President's National Award. Having changed the way dance was perceived in Indian films, Shiamak went on to choreograph for several Bollywood films such as Taal, Kisna, Bunty Aur Babli, Dhoom 2, I See You, Taare Zameen Par, Yuvvraaj and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. His latest work is for the Indian film 'Aladdin - The Mystery of the Lamp' starring Amitabh Bachchan.He has acted and choreographed in a movie called Little Ziziou. Shiamak has also been Performer and Entertainment Designer for international shows such as Sahara Sangeet Awards.He does speak Hindi Fluently.
